The last big event at Gamescom 2024 brought us a few awesome looking indie games. Here are our pick for the top reveals.

If you ask me, Awesome Indies Show had better games announced than Future Games Show, which caught me off guard, not gonna lie. Let’s get right to them.

Awesome Indies Show – top announcements

Altered Alma

On one hand Altered Alma presents nothing new, but I dig the artstyle and the in-game location of Neo Barcelona. Plus the gameplay looks intense and very fluid, if you know what I mean. The combos in the trailer look epic, same for the bosses. The electronic soundtrack is the cherry on top. Altered Alma is coming with a playable demo in September 2024 on Steam.

The Berlin Apartment

A quite odd looking game, set in a particular apartment in Berlin, covering the stories of people who used to live in it. Not entirely sure what we can expect of this game. Will it be some sort of a sim game? Maybe a bit of adventure. There is definetly a sci-fi/fantasy element to it. According to the creators the game is like a episodic film from a first person view. Simply put, I’m intrigued and very much want to check this game out.

Mika and the Witch’s Mountain

Ever dreamed of being a witch? Well, now you can become one in this colorful adventure title. I believe this game will be quite entertaining. I think the devs were inspired by the setting of The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, which makes me like this game even more. Mika and the Witch’s Mountain releases August 21st, 2024 on Nintendo Switch and Steam.

Fera: The Sundered Tribes

This action adventure title reminds me a lot of Immortals Fenyx Rising with a sprinkling of Zelda, Horizon and Monster Hunter. A decent combo, if executed well. The in-game world looks beautiful and combat feels entertaining. Fera: The Sundered Tribes makes its way to PC soon. No exact date yet.

Paraside: Duality Unbound

This one looks fraking awesome. While I’m not too big on tactical games, Paraside seems like a well thought-out game. The mechanics of switching between two worlds during battles and exploration is a great idea. The execution looks to be on point, too. Visually, the game looks stunning. I will gladly play Paraside: Duality Unbound when it launches on PC and consoles (including Switch) next year.

Everspace 2: Titans

Everspace 2 is awesome. And now it gets an awesome expansion, Titans. Leviathan Deep Dive will take you inside of the belly of these fearsome beasts. Inside Leviathans you will encounter small enemies and navigate through the insides of the enormous monster. This looks like so much fun, I just can’t wait to get my hands on the new DLC for Everspace 2. Titans will be available on September 16th on PC and consoles.

Cairn

This rock climbing focused game will let you take it easy and get into the shoes of a professional climber. I guess actual climbers will absolutely love this game, but I think they won’t be the only ones interested. I know nothing about climbing, but this trailer got me in awe. Cairn looks gorgeous. The game is yet to get a release date, but you can wishlist it on Steam right now.

Summary

That would be all folks. This years Awesome Indies Show did not have a ton of great games presented, but the ones we did see will likely make up for it in quality. This concludes our coverage of Gamescom 2024. We look forward to the show in 2025.
