This year QuakeCon has focused a lot on Doom so far. Here are all the major announcements from the first day of the event.
QuakeCon 2024 has officially started. The event from Bethesda Softworks is going to focus on all of their titles, but mostly Doom and Quake. Well, it should be rebranded as DoomCon, since they barely touched their Quake IP lately, but I get it. Everyone’s playing Doom, including me.
So, we got plenty of announcements from Texas this Thursday. Let’s dive into these. There’s Doom, Quake, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls on the table, with the first one taking almost the whole cake.
DOOM + DOOM II – a new port announced
If you haven’t got enough of the first and second Doom games, Bethesda got your back. The new compilation is going through the roof. There will be 120 FPS support, online multiplayer for up to 16 players, and a new episode, Legacy of Rust. Alright, that’s pretty cool. Can’t wait to rip and tear demons in higher frame rates.
DOOM + DOOM II is available on all platforms for $9.99, but for anyone owning either of them, the compilation is free of charge. Way to go Bethesda, I like it. It will also be available through Game Pass.
Doom Anthology
You can now purchase all the games together in this official Anthology. Plus, there is a nice addition for the collectors. A physical edition of the Anthology will be available, and it will include a steel book and a 5-inch BFG replica stand.
An updated anthology with all the Doom games is coming to all platforms on October 22, 2024.
Just so you know, if the official Anthology does not interest you, Steam has a major discount on all the games compilation right now. Worth checking out if you lack some of the games.
Doom for SNES – Limited Run Games release
Yet another surprise for the collectors. Limited Run Games is releasing the original Doom for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. This release features a nicely packaged game and a bunch of goodies. Both physical and digital. There are 14 new levels to play in this edition.
The game will have a standard and collector’s editions to choose from. At the moment the only information we got on the release date is 2025. There’s no word of the game on the LRG website at the moment. So keep your eyes on their socials and website if you wanna grab your copy.
Doom Eternal on Epic Games Store and idStudio Beta live
If there was any doubt about Doom Eternal’s availability absolutely everywhere, now you can be sure. You can buy this game in every major online store, including Epic Games Store from today.
Also, idStudio Beta is now live. What is it? It’s a modding suite for the PC players of Doom Eternal. Modders are now allowed to bring all their demon-slaying fantasies alive with their work. I’m sure it will be awesome. Modders have really been keeping older Bethesda titles around with their creations. Can’t wait to see what they will come up with in the latest Doom.
The Bards College Creation for Skyrim
Yes, Skyrim is alive and kicking. Maybe a little less than a few years ago, but modders are not quite done with this game. And I guess they won’t be, till we see a new TES. The Bards College is a new expansion for the game, which includes a new quest-line, Shouts, minigames, locations and more.
If you ever dreamed of being a bard in an Elder Scrolls game, now is your chance to shine. The expansion from Kinggath Creations is now available in Skyrim Special Edition.
Other stuff
With the biggies out of the way, here are a few smaller announcements from thursday on QuakeCon 2024.
The Elder Scrolls Online is celebrating a 10-Year Anniversary. The first thing you can get in this celebration are three fiery pets. According to Bethesda, there are more rewards coming.
Fallout 76 is getting a Milepost Zero Update.
This update brings Caravans, Legendary Crafting and a way to see the best C.A.M.P.s with.
And finally, at the very end of the announcements from QuakeCon, there is one thing for the Quake franchise. Yikes… The Quake Champions players will get a QuakeCon 2024 Tri-Bolt weapon skin when they log in before August 12. A new map, Cursed Soul, is released as well.
For a Quake Oriented event, there is not too much Quake going on. But I do like the Doom related news. Hopefully Bethesda will surprise us with a few more announcements this weekend.
