Cyberpunk 2077 is a game with one of the most disastrous launches in video game history. Right now, after over 3 years of continuous work on updating and fixing the title, the devs are finally satisfied with the state of their game.
Studio’s CEO Adam Kiciński admitted in the latest financial results presentation that CD Projekt RED is happy with the game.
We are finally satisfied – since last year – with the state of the game; both the basic version of the game and Phantom Liberty – the latter, of course, satisfied us from the very beginning.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that should not deserve to have such a terrible launch. After the huge success of The Witcher 3 CD Projekt devs took a gigantic project on their shoulders.
Now it wasn’t just fields and villages to create, but an enormous dystopian city of the future. And it was clear at launch, they didn’t have enough time and human resources to handle such a project.
Announcing the game 8 years prior and multiple delays did not help. Fans were eager to play the game and it had to be launched at some point. They definitely couldn’t wait another 3+ years.
Plus the game ran terribly on the 8th generation of consoles. It was so bad, that Sony removed the game from the PS Store and Microsoft was helping people with refunds.
Needless to say, it was a disaster. Personally, I played the base game on PC right after launch and I was lucky enough to get minimal glitches and the game was very playable. And enjoyable! I’m a big fan of the studio’s work on The Witcher series as well, so I had high hopes for Cyberpunk 2077. It was a mixed bag for me and way worse for many others.
Recently I replayed the whole game on Xbox Series X with the Phantom Liberty DLC and after the big 2.0 patch. And I have to say, the game finally delivers, big time. It’s an awesome experience, which we should have had three years ago.
CD Projekt RED is currently working on 4(!) different projects, which include games in both Cyberpunk and Witcher series, split between 600 developers. 400 of them are already working on The Witcher 4, which is the next one to be released.
Let’s just hope they did their homework and we won’t see another Cyberpunk 2077 on launch.
