The developer Massive Monster released the Unholy Alliance free update, which lets you play with a friend and adds multiple new features to the adventure.
Cult of the Lamb just got hit with a local co-op mode. Too bad it’s being delivered two years after the game launched, but I’m still excited about it. If you’re not yet familiar with this indie cult classic, hehe, the game is a mix of a dungeon crawler with some roguelike, action, and strategy elements.
Story recap
You play as a Lamb, which is recruited by an evil deity to form and grow a cult surrounding it. The gameplay is divided into two main tasks. The first one is the creation of the cult. You will find new followers, build a whole village, and take care of both. There are plenty of surprises in doing so, such as followers mutiny and more. Besides cultivating a cult, you will also crawl dungeons, to find and destroy four bishops who keep the mentioned deity captive.
The game’s cute visuals are confronted with brutality and pseudo-satanic elements, which is exactly what you could expect from a game published by Devolver Digital. Needless to say, it is a crazy title and a lot of fun to play.
Unholy Alliance – what’s new?
Cult of the Lamb saw two major updates already, which added new modes, skills, levels, items, and more.
Now we have a new update, which gives our lamb a companion, the goat. Now you can take care of your cult and crawl dungeon with a friend in a local co-op gameplay. You can also choose to play as a goat in the single-player game.
Aside from the new mode, the update offers two new buildings and way more challenging followers. They will now be more messy, jealous, loud, and obnoxious, and will add to the difficulty in your quest of growing the cult. Lastly, the update offers new tarots and relics, plus a few quality-of-life improvements and fixes to make your cult-growing activities a bit more fun.
Does this update make the game worth revisiting for anyone who has already beaten the game? Probably not. But it is a great chance for the new players to check this awesome title out. Especially if you like to play games with friends in local co-op.
Unholy Alliance is available now for free to anyone who purchased the game on any platform.
