Sony presented us with over 30 minutes of news about the games coming to the Playstation this year.
We just got the newest presentation from Sony. Some reveals got me excited, some not so much. Let’s get straight to the news. Here are all the revealed titles at the latest State Of Play.
Concord
Release date: 8.23.2024
Beta available: July 2024
Platform: PS5, PC
Concord is an online FPS that looks a bit like Overwatch got mixed up with Guardians Of The Galaxy. While the cinematic trailer looks awesome, I really don’t feel like playing another space shooter, with character-driven gameplay. It does not look like the mechanics are gonna bring anything new to the table. The characters look alright, in the cinematic they felt like a promising set of individuals. The actors did a great job on this one. The developer, Firewalk, promises a new cinematic each week, driving the plot of the presented heroes forward. Sure, why not, but it’s not about the cinematics, it’s about the gameplay. And if they don’t deliver on this part, there will be no players to watch these cool cinematics. Wish it was a free to play. Not going to cross this title just yet, but I won’t say I’m very excited for Concord. And this one took 10 out of 35 minutes of the presentation, yikes.
God of War: Ragnarök – PC port
Release date: 9.19.2024
Platform: PC
We all saw that coming. Yet another great Playstation title is going to PC. I am very pleased to see it happening, as PC players deserve more love these days when consoles are so wildly popular. The game will look better than ever, with the support for ultra-wide screens and all of the popular upscaling tools from NVidia, Intel, and AMD. The game will include the Valhalla DLC as well. Basically a whole package. I’m glad the PC players will be able to continue their Kratos adventure and hope to see even continued cooperation between Playstation and PCs.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Release date: 2025
Platform: PS5
We only got a short trailer for the newest game in the Warriors series, but it seems like a love letter to the classic games in the franchise. I hope for epic, big battles and an awesome main character. The series had its ups and downs, but I’m hopeful Omega Force will deliver. Especially since I had so much fun with Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity.
Infinity Nikki
Release date: TBA
Platform: PS5
Infinity Nikki is a Japanese title, described by the developer as a Dress-Up Adventure Game. As you may deduce it has a strong fashion element to it. As well as a photo element. The game has been developed by Papergames since 2012 and now it’s coming to the Playstation 5. I really love the game’s style and will gladly check it out on the big screen. Infinity Nikki will start beta testing in the third quarter of 2024, with the release to be announced, but I’m sure it will be released in the first half of 2025.
Ballad of Antara
Release date: 2025
Platform: PS5
This one caught my attention. Not gonna lie. Ballad of Antara seems like a soulslike with a very interesting, Asian fantasy setting. In the trailer, we can see a bunch of different characters. The developer describes the game as a Dark Fantasy Action RPG. I’m going to keep my eye on this game as it looks very promising.
Skydance’s Behemoth
Release date: fall 2024
Platform: PSVR2
Yet another dark fantasy. This time it’s going to the PSVR2. And I see a bit of a problem here since hardly anyone bought the darn thing. Fortunately, the game will be available on Meta Quest and Steam VR. The game seems pretty fun. Not that it’s a revolution, but it does look like it will give you plenty of entertainment. Dismembering baddies in the middle ages always hits the sweet spot with me. This one is not high on my list, but I might check it out on Meta Quest when it releases.
Alien Rogue Incursion
Release date: Holiday 2024
Platform: PSVR2
Now this is more like it for me since I’m a huge fan of the Alien Universe. We only got a glimpse of gameplay, so it still might suck, but I will definitely give it a try. Basically, it looks like an Alien Isolation in VR. I’m so in! The new Alien VR game will be available on Meta Quest, PSVR2, and Steam VR.
Marvel Rivals
Release date: TBA
Platform: PS5
Marvel’s take on Overwatch it seems. Even though it does not look too different than Concord to me, people seem to be on board. With so many character-based shooters around it’s a hit or miss, so we will see how this one will turn out. Playing as Spider-Man or Venom can be super cool. The graphics and gameplay look on point. The closed beta for PS5 users begins this July, so we will know more soon enough.
Where Winds Meet
Release date: TBA
Platform: PS5
Asian devs have been going strong for the last couple of years. And Where Winds Meet does not seem to indicate a downgrade in the quality of Asian-stylized open-world action games. The trailer looks great, the game will most likely be great. All we need to do is wait and play when it will be here.
Until Dawn (remaster)
Release date: fall 2024
Platform: PS5
Can someone tell Sony they don’t need to remaster every game less than 10 years old? I guess they will do it anyway. Until Dawn remaster looks ok. Not groundbreaking, but at least you can tell it’s a remaster. Plus it seems new content will be added to the game, so it might even be worth getting. Will see.
Path of Exile 2
Release date: TBA
Platform: PS5
The game Diablo IV wishes it was is coming to PS5. And it comes in hard! Couch co-op, cross-play, and cross-progression! That’s how you do a sequel. Developers take notes. Can’t wait to play PoE 2 on PS5. The gameplay looks sick. It will be a hit for sure. Early Access starts in late 2024.
Silent Hill 2 (remake)
Release date: 10.8.2024
Platform: PS5
While graphically, Silent Hill 2 remake leaves a lot to be desired, the gameplay does not look that bad. From the comments online we can easily deduce it won’t be selling crazy, but might not be as bad as people claim it to be. And even if it is, you can still play the original. Either way, we win.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Release date: 2025
Platform: PS5
Monster Hunter is one of these series that never seems to disappoint. Monster Hunter Wilds is going to be no exception, it seems. The trailer looks great. Gameplay looks great. Monsters look great. Get your greatswords ready to slash some monsters when the newest entry in the series comes to your PS5 next year.
Astro Bot
Release date: 9.6.2024
Platform: PS5
Ever since I played Astro Bot tech demo on the PS5 I really wanted it to become a fully fledged game. And now it happened. Astro Bot is like a love letter to all the classic 3D platformers both from Playstation consoles and Nintendo platforms. We can clearly see inspiration from Super Mario Odyssey and many more. For me, it’s the best game presented during State of Play. This will be a must-have for everybody, not just platforming fans. I’m sure of it.
Summary
All and all it wasn’t a bad presentation. Glad to see some awesome games coming to the PS5. Not everything will be worth your while, but it’s good to see some more games on the PS5 finally. Monster Hunter Wilds, Astro Bot, and Path of Exile 2 are my favorites here. I’ll have my eye on a lot of the presented titles and I think you should too.
