Game Developers Choice Awards 2024 are behind us and Larian Studios with their Baldur’s Gate 3 have done it again. The game left with 4 awards. The event is a part of the Game Developers Conference and took place in San Francisco, USA on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024.

Baldur’s Gate 3 with multiple awards

Larian Studios has done it yet again. Baldur’s Gate left the event with four awards including of course the Game of the Year. It’s yet another GOTY award for the acclaimed studio and I’m all for it because Baldur’s Gate 3 is an awesome game and deserves every single one of them.

Larian took home awards for Best Narrative, Best Design, and the Audience Award as well. It was another successful award ceremony for the Belgians. And other developers should take notes on what makes the audiences engaged in a title. Congrats to the whole team behind this wonderful title.

Tears of the Kingdom – best technology and innovation

Nintendo and their Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom took home two awards best suited for this title if you ask me.

The game got the Innovation Award and another for the Best Technology. And rightfully so. The way this game works is just magical. I’m still having a blast playing it.

Other notable mentions

It’s no surprise that Larian and Nintendo got their awards, but we have to give credit to some other titles. Venba from Visai Games won in two categories – Best Debut and the Social Impact Award. The game is a lovely narrative title following the story of a family of immigrants from India and is centered around cooking.

Another deserved win went to Hi-Fi Rush (Tango Gameworks) for the Best Audio. It’s a rhythm-action game with the whole gameplay centered around beating enemies to the beat. Awesome title with awesome music. Definitely worth checking out. And it just got released on the Playstation 5 too.

But it’s not just games that got awards last night. The ceremony honored two people, who had a great impact on the industry, Fawzi Mesmar and Yoko Shimomura.

Mesmar is a famous game designer, who worked on such franchises as Star Wars, Persona, Mario + Rabbids, Candy Crush, and more.

Shimomura received a lifetime achievement award for her incredible work. She is a Japanese composer best known for her work on games like Street Fighter II, Kingdom Hearts, Super Mario RPG, Legend of Mana, and many more.
