There are so many games we have yet to play in 2024. Here’s our picks for the most anticipated ones.
2024 is a good year for gamer. Really good. I already have quite a backlog to finish this year, and the developers are not making my life easier. There’s a lot of games to talk about. Here are our picks for the games we’re excited for in the remainder of 2024.
Cat Quest 3
Release date: 8.8.2024
Platforms: Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC
The first Cat Quest was this game that I always saw in the Switch eShop, but never bothered buying. But then the second one came along, which I played with my girlfriend and I got hooked. So much so, that I also had to try the first one at last.
Cat Quest 3 seems to bring more of the good stuff to the table, as well as some new features. The biggest thing is the pirate setting. Now you can get into sea battles, which excites me the most. There’s going to be a couch co-op mode here again. What’s not to like here.
The cutest dungeon crawler action game is coming to all the platforms very soon.
SteamWorld Heist II
Release date: 8.8.2024
Platforms: Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC
On the same day as the Cat Quest 3 we get another sequel to a beloved game. They are a bit similar actually, both rocking that pirate lifestyle. In this turn based strategy game, you will pick your crew and traverse the sea and land in search of treasures and battles.
I love the steampunk style, and the SteamWorld games are the best way to experience it with their awesome gameplay and a cartoonish setting. And boy, there’s a lot of them to choose from. I recommend at least trying SteamWorld Dig and the first SteamWorld Heist. And buying this one of course.
In SteamWorld Heist II you will sail the seas and fight your adversaries in this beautifully crafted steampunk world very soon.
Black Myth: Wukong
Release date: 8.20.2024
Platforms: Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
I gotta say, Chinese and Japanese game
are on fire this year. This action adventure RPG is going to blow our minds. I’m sure of it.
Black Myth: Wukong is taking a huge inspiration from the Chinese culture of the 16th century, and it looks incredible. The design of the monsters, bosses and locations is breathtaking. On top of that, the music sounds delightful and the gameplay seems air tight. A game of the year is upon us.
The game will release in August 20th on PS5 and PC with the Xbox release slated for the future.
Gundam Breaker 4
Release date: 8.29.2024
Platforms: Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC
If you love Gundam, you’re already excited for this game for sure. If you’re not familiar with the Gundam Breaker series, it’s a game where giant robots punch eachother.
This Japanese classic action series from Bandai Namco is making a comeback with another robot-packed adrenaline rush of a game. Creat and customize your own Gunpla and fight giant robots to your hearts delight.
Ready yourself to play tons of missions, fight other robots and play with friends in a co-op mode next month.
The gameplay looks absolutely sick. I cannot wait to get into the fight.
Visions of Mana
Release date: 8.29.2024
Platforms: Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
The Mana series has been a staple of the RPG genre for 30 years now. Visions of Mana is a fifth installment in the series. From the looks of it, the series is not intending to slow down one bit.
The next Mana game looks gorgeous. The 3D anime style animation looks better than ever. There are five characters to choose from, each with unique design and skillset. The gameplay looks like tons of fun. And again, this game looks so good, it’s mindblowing. Truly a next-gen experience.
There are so many Mana games, it might feel overwhelming to check them all out. But if you want to get into this fantastic world, the Collection of Mana, containing the first three game of the main series is available on the Nintendo Switch.
Age of Mythology: Retold
Release date: 9.4.2024
Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC
Millenials were screaming when this game got announced. This amazing RTS game is making a comback on the PC and Xbox. As the name suggests, you will embark on a journey full of Gods, monsters, Titans, Giants and more.
Age of Mythology let’s you play as the Greek, Egyptian, Norse and Atlantic civilizations. Each with their own campaigns full of Gods wrath or mercy. As a huge fan of all of these mythologies, I’m so happy to see this remake.
The game looks great. I hope to have as much, if not more fun, as I had with the original game.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
Release date: 9.9.2024
Platforms: Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
The Warhammer series is such a classic, I don’t think any gamer needs a reminder of what it is. In the newest game in the Space Marine series we will once again step into the shoes of a Space Marine, the deadliest weapon of The Empire.
Mow through hordes of Tyranids in the long awaited sequel to Space Marine from 2011. The first game was released on PS3, X360 and PC. If you’d like to check it out, there is an Anniversary Edition available on Steam.
The gameplay of this third person shooter looks absolutely bonkers. There’s hours of action awaiting us, when Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launches in september.
Wild Bastards
Release date: 9.12.2024
Platforms: Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC
Imagine a steampunk and cyberpunk relationship resulting in a first person tactical shooter. That’s exactly what you can expect from Wild Bastards. This game looks like the coolest cartoon ever was convertet into a video game.
In this western highly stylized game, you will take control of a team of 13 outlaws, who embark on tactical missions with lots of shootouts. Each mission will have lots of options of progressing for the player, resulting in different outcomes and lenght of the operation.
The artstyle and gameplay feel so fresh. I love when developers with great new ideas have the opportunity to materialize their creativity in a game. This one is high on my list.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Release date: 9.26.2024
Platforms: Nintendo Switch
The newest game in the legendary (hehe) series from Nintendo will let us play as Zelda for a change. Love the idea. The game engine is the same one used in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake Nintendo released on the Switch. So if you’re familiar with the remake, Echoes of Wisdom will feel right at home.
The game will feature a new weapon/tool called Trirod, which will allow you to summon many objects you previously encountered to help you traverse the land of Hyrule. If you played Tears of the Kingdom, this ability is very similar to autobuild.
I’m a huge sucker for first party Nintendo games, so you know this one is already ordered.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero
Release date: 10.11.2024
Platforms: Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
The latest fighting game from the world of Dragon Ball takes the gameplay of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, in which you battle in the 3D arenas. In the new game we will be able to fight using tons of different characters from the anime, each with their own skillset.
There will be a huge amount of cutscenes and easter eggs for the fans of the manga, anime and games. As always the fights will be legendary, with the gameplay trailers proving to us, the DB games are as strong as ever.
All the Dragon Ball games look beautiful, and Sparking Zero does not seem to be an exception. The game will be a feast for the senses.
Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven
Release date: 10.24.2024
Platforms: Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC
Just like we said. The JRPG fans have a lot to be thankful for this year. This time it’s the remake of the beloved RPG from 1993. Realised again, in 3D, Revenge of the Seven looks like it’s going to be a game worthy of covering the genius of the original.
Romancing Saga 2 tells the story of the conflict between the imperial line of Varennes and the Seven Heroes of ancient myth. The game’s story spans through generations. You will see new emperors and many new characters throughout the entire game. It’s what made the original game one of a kind.
From what Square Enix has already told us about the remake, it will stay faithful to the original, which hopefully means all the originality of the SNES game will transfer well to the remake.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Release date: 11.7.2024
Platforms: Nintendo Switch
If you saw the latest Nintendo Direct, you know the Japanese giant has made a huge comeback for the second half of the year. What caught many fans by surprise is the return of the beloved Mario & Luigi series. Big N is releasing a sequel after 9 long years, not counting the remakes.
The game looks lovely. It has that charm that the series is known for. I’m very happy to see its comback on the Nintendo Switch. Pretty incredible to see what this system can still surprise us with. For the newcomers, Mario & Luigi is an adventure RPG series, featuring both of the famous brother going together on adventures.
For me, the couch co-op games are The GOAT, so no wonder I’m very excited for the new Mario and Luigi adventure. And from what I’ve seen, the fans feel the same way.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Release date: 11.20.2024
Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC
The next S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game is finally coming. The Ukrainian developer GSC had a biggest challenge imaginable, to bring a game to the world while being invaded. For that they have my utmost respect and I will support their efforts by buying the game. I highly recommend you do so too.
The game will mix survival horror and FPS genres in a greedy dark sci-fi game. Enter the post-apocalyptic world of The Zone and fight for survival using powers and intricately designed weapons.
The game will be a lot of fun, I’m sure. And it looks fantastic. It’s great to see it will finally see the light of day.
Summary
The Soulslike, RPG and Nintendo fans have been more than happy this year. Especially with so many awesome games still on the horizon. I wish we could get a great fresh racing game. There is Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown coming out this year, but unfortunetly I don’t think it will live up to the expectations. But I hope to be wrong on this one.
Anyway, there will be many games to play on all platforms. I’m sure the gamers are satisfied. I most definetly am. Let’s hope the 2025 will be just as good.
