With tons of third party options Nintendo finally decided to join and release a charging station for the Joy-Cons. Better late than never, right?
Joy-Cons, the Switch’s most popular official controllers are mostly charged via the console itself. But for people with multiple Joy-Cons, like myself, having a dedicated charging station made life much easier.
This is where Nintendo decided to step in and introduced an official charging stand. It will charge two controllers and will have an option to take it out of the stand and use it all as a wired controller. This is all cool, but it’s been over seven years since the Switch launched. Most people already have a third party solution. I got a Hori charger for four Joy-Cons years ago.
But it’s better to release it now, than not releasing it at all. After all, Switch has over 120mln active users, which is incredible. Many of them probably still lack such a solution. Just as a reminder, Nintendo also released a Joy-Con Charging Grip years ago, which is a much better solution if you ask me.
The chargin stand will also give you option for charging the dedicated NES Switch controllers, if you bought them. That’s actually useful, since the mentioned charging grip is not able to do it.
The new charging stand will be available for purchase in North America, Japan and Europe from October 17th, 2024. The price for NA and Europe is not yet known, but the Japanese version will cost 3,300 Yen, which is about 21$.
