Nintendo spokesperson has confirmed to German Games Wirtschaft, that the company will opt out of this year’s event in Cologne, Germany.
Many Nintendo fans will be disappointed by this announcement. A lot of people hoped for a Switch successor presentation at the show in Germany. Or at least some game announcements.
The gaming show will be held in Cologne, Germany from 8.21 to 8.25.2024 and will likely feature plenty of thrilling announcements. Sadly Nintendo won’t be present, but I bet we will get enough of the excitement.
Last year Nintendo reportedly held a private showing of their next console for chosen journalists and gaming insiders. It fired up expectations about this year’s Gamescom, which was extinguished by Nintendo.
In said presentation, Nintendo supposedly displayed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild playing at 60FPS, as well as the Unreal Engine 5 capability showcase with The Matrix Awakens tech demo.
I hope it actually was as exciting as it seems and we are in for a treat when Nintendo reveals the new hardware to us. Switch is awesome (aside from the Joy-Cons, hehe), but it is getting old and I’m all in for the next console. I just hope it will remain a hybrid.
There are many rumors surrounding the “Switch 2”, but I like to wait for a piece of real information, rather than listen to rumors. I don’t think we will have to wait much longer.
But what about the new games? If Nintendo is out of Gamsecom, does it mean we won’t hear about any new games? Well, I don’t think so. Let’s not forget that the Japanese giant has been shadow-dropping quite a few titles in recent years, like Metroid Prime Remastered. They also revealed a few surprise trailer with games releasing soon after, like Paper Mario: The Origami King.
Hopefully, they have a few of those surprises up their sleeves for this year. Even if they won’t attend Gamescom. The first half of the year is a bit disappointing, but the holiday season is ahead, so enjoy your Luigi’s Mansions and Paper Marios while waiting for more new titles and a new system. And if you own other consoles or a PC show them some love as well.
