Seems like The Pokémon Company may have a surprise for the fans in the future. The company set up a new subsidiary named Pokémon Works in Japan on March 4th, 2024.

The word about the new branch came from Joe Merrick on X:

The Pokémon Company in Japan have set up a new subsidiary: Pokémon Works.

The trademark just got pushed and the company was registered a week ago.

No idea what the company is for at this time. Will let you all know

Possible connection with ILCA

We also found out that the subsidiary is located in the same building as the ILCA, the company responsible for the remakes of Pokémon Shining Pearl and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, and Pokémon Home which has fans speculating.

I wouldn’t get too excited yet, because the same building thing might mean absolutely nothing. ILCA is not owned by The Pokémon Company and they worked on a number of projects which had nothing to do with the Pokémon franchise.

Even if the new developer has nothing to do with ILCA and is a completely separate entity, I will remind you that the Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond sold over 15 million copies worldwide, which is a success worthy of capitalizing on with some more remakes.

Future of the Pokémon franchise

With the Pokémon Legends: Z-A on the way we might get some new interesting announcements soon. It is also plausible that Pokémon Works is simply a support for Game Freak, the studio behind all the mainline Pokémon games. We have to wait and see what will happen within Pokémon Works.

So something seems to be cooking at The Pokémon Company and I’m all for it. Maybe Pokémon Works will give us more remakes, an upcoming game, or even games. Who knows? I’m hoping for a breath of freshness after the last few mainline Pokémon games, which left a lot to be desired.

Even if Pokémon Works is just a little Game Freak helper, it’s ok, if we could see an increase in the quality of the next games in the franchise. Looking at you Z-A.

I would love to see new games as exciting as the Game Boy titles back in the day. I know the new ones sell, but it got boring in the world of Pokémon and we all could use some excitement in the new titles in the future.
