Hard to believe, but the original Playstation is almost 30 years old. Here’s what Sony plans to celebrate its 30th birthday.
Even though the anniversary is still a few months away, Sony decided to start celebrating already, with games, soundtracks, toys and more. Starting of with a cute short video of celebrating Astro from the fantastic Asto Bot, which just released. There’s also a special anniversary photo location in game’s central hub.
Here’s everything else Sony plans for the Playstation anniversary in the next few weeks:
My First GT
Sony is preparing a Gran Turismo driving simulator inside Gran Turismo 7, which will include most iconic cars, tracks and events in the series’ history. A free trial version will be available this holiday on PS4 and PS5.
Digital Soundtracks
Great news for the fans of God of War, Twisted Metal and more. Soundtracks from various titles will release from October to January on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music and through other music retailers. This is awesome news. I love seeing (well, hearing) my favorite games soundtracks in streaming services.
These soundtracks will be available:
- God of War
- God of War II
- God of War: Ghost of Sparta
- Twisted Metal
- Starhawk
- Unit 13
The special PlayStation 30th Anniversary playlist on Spotify is also available:
Shapes of Play
A collection of toys and board games will be available from December 2024, through this website. This doesn’t even feel like a Playstation related thing, but it will be here for the interested fans.
Free multiplayer weekend and tournaments
In the weekend of September 21-22, Playstation players can enjoy the multiplayer games they own without the PS Plus subscription. Yay…
The same weekend will be a place of tournaments for lots of titles, including: NBA 2K24, NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 24, MLB The Show 24, EA UFC 5, Tekken 8 and Guilty Gear Strive.
All the gamers owning said games and qualify (whatever it means), can compete and win a special themed avatar and other stuff.
More details about the tournaments are available through this website.
Summary
Cool for Sony to celebrate their console’s 30th Anniversary, but I hope for some more exciting announcements. I’m all for the soundtrack releases, and that Gran Turismo simulator sounds fun. Other stuff is just meh. But Sony promises a lot more activities and releases, so fingers crossed for some more awesome surprises.
