As you may or may not know, Nintendo is working on a live-action Zelda movie. The weirdest part is, that they are co-producing it with Sony.
Since the project was announced, fans were a bit skeptical and scared about what could happen with their beloved franchise’s adaptation. Myself included.
We’ve heard very little about the upcoming project. Hence, the director, Wes Ball, known for directing The Maze Runner trilogy and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, decided to share some information with eager fans.
According to Wes Ball, the movie will have a serious tone and a real feeling to it, but at the same time, it will offer a sense of fun and escapism.
I have this awesome idea. I’ve been thinking about it for a long freakin’ time, of how cool a Zelda movie would be… I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape. I want to live in that world. That’s the thing I want to try to create – it’s got to feel like something real. Something serious and cool, but fun and whimsical.
Back in December we also heard a bit from both the director and Sony’s CEO ensuring us we will get “an amazing tale of adventure and discovery“, with the project being called a live-action Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) movie.
As scary as this project seems, we got a passionate director with ideas on board. And most importantly, we got Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the franchise with the whole Nintendo company backing him. That calms me down a lot and it should calm you too I dare to say.
I remember being crazy excited and crazy scared about the Super Mario Bros. Movie. And we got a fantastic film, from people who were in love with the project.
I believe The Legend of Zelda movie will get the same treatment and we will all go to see a great movie when it comes out sometime in the future.
