The sequel to the highly regarded Breath of the Wild is already one year old.
Man, time flies when you’re having fun. Back in the day, Nintendo surprised their fans with a giant sandbox Zelda in Breath of the Wild. Some fans loved it, some fans hated it. Whether you’re in the first or the second group, there’s no denying that this game brought the franchise to a new level. Breath of the Wild sold 32 million units, which meant plenty of new gamers added to the franchise fanbase.
I have very fond memories of this game. Now I mainly play Tears of the Kingdom, but both games have a special place in my heart with hundreds of hours of playtime combined.
The first time the franchise really went open world, and I mean, big time open world, we got a game that offered a great amount of fun with the mechanics. YouTube and social media apps are full of videos showing crazy gameplay elements and fun ways of solving problems and dealing with enemies.
And I thought they won’t be able to top that. The level of attention to detail and complexity of the game mechanics was through the roof. And then the sequel was presented. Suddenly the open world got two times bigger with the introduction of the Sky Islands and The Depths, which was already awesome, but not the main event.
The real game changer came in the form of new abilities, the biggest of them being the Ultra Hand. It gave players the freedom to build basically anything they could think of and it unlocked hundreds of ways to solve in game problems in a unique way.
Now, that the game is one year old Nintendo released a nice graphic celebrating the first anniversary of its release.
On top of that, the Japanese market is getting a hefty soundtrack, with a whopping 9 discs containing 344 tracks! Not really an anniversary release, since it will be available from 31st July, but we could call it a nice addition to celebrating the game being one year old. The soundtrack will cost you 19,800 Japanese yen, so around 85 US dollars. I wish it would get a wider release, but maybe the interest would not meet expectations.
Tears of the Kingdom is a joy to play. Nintendo really outdid themselves with a title of that scale. Makes me wonder where the franchise could go from now on. I’m sure we will get another exciting entry in the series with the release of new Nintendo hardware, so for now, let’s enjoy the enormous and fun world of the latest in The Legend of Zelda franchise.
