The beloved series is making a comeback with a brand new game, which goes back to the roots of the franchise.

Ubisoft took everyone by surprise with unveiling of the next Heroes of Might and Magic title. The turn-based strategy game was almost forgotten by fans, who decided to stick with older games in the franchise.

Olden Era is supposed to turn the tide for the series and bring it back to the mainstream. It’s quite clear, when you look at the reveal trailer. The game is almost like Heroes III with a fresh coat of paint. This is fantastic news, cause newer games had the problem of trying to reinvent the wheel. No need, dear devs. The series was perfect and it’s great, that Unfrozen, the developer behind the new game is taking the advantage of that.

New Heroes game is going to be set before the events of the first game and will take us to the continents of Enroth and Jadame. While the core mechanics seem to be the same as the older games, the devs promise new features, including more control over leveling up your heroes and factions, and new ways to learn skills and magic. The battles will also see some improvements, including secondary abilities, which player will be able to use after filling an energy meter.

Players will be able to play the game in a few different modes. There will be a classic story campaign, single map missions and multiplayer. I hope local multiplayer will be present. Not a real Heroes game without one. As for maps, there will be pre-made ones as well as randomly generated ones. The map editor is also promised.

While taking heavy inspiration from mostly Heroes III, developer is preparing new heroes, factions, towns, items and more. Seems like people at Unfrozen are big fans of the classic games from the series. Everything seems impressive. Now all we have to do is wait and see how the game turns out.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is set to release on PC in early access in the first half of 2025. No word on the console ports at the moment. You can wishlist the game on Steam right now.
